Subject: USPS SYSTEM OUTAGE – October 09, 2012 and Continuing
We received notification from USPS that the PTS (Product Tracking System) is experiencing issues and is not updating tracking events on USPS systems as of Monday evening October 8th. The packages are still moving, but the tracking events are not populating on the tracking system. This is a USPS issue, it will affect all packages in the USPS network. Below is the notification from the United States Postal Service.
"PTS experienced a system problem in the morning, October 9, 2012, that caused the database to halt processing. There was a problem on the mainframe that corrupted the database indexes. The system has stopped posting any new customer manifests and scan event data. As a result, no new data is being posted to the database or available for Track & Confirm queries. In addition, customer extracts are not processing."
"The system started showing degraded performance Monday evening, October 8, that carried over into Tuesday morning with manifest queues building. Processing stopped at approximately 5:30 am CT and at this time the root cause is unknown. Our IT team is working to resolve these issues and resume processing. The database indexes are being rebuilt; but we do not have an ETA for resolution. We will share more updated information as it becomes available."

This just in: "We have received communication from our contacts at the US Postal Service that they have resolved the systems issues affecting the USPS PTS. However, please be aware that they continue to anticipate a data backlog that may reach 24 hours or from the perspective of the U.S. West Coast, through the end of the business day today October 10th."
